The Promenade des Anglais in Nice is the ideal venue for a gentle family bike ride.
Thanks to the actions carried out over the past few years by the Nice local authority to encourage bike riding with the aim of becoming more ecologically friendly, a 7,3km long cycle path now exists leading from the Rauba Capeu les Ponchettes, near the port to Nice airport, passing by Ferber, Californie and the Arénas. The whole stretch of the cycle path runs along side the Mediterranean Sea.
It is not the place to go if you want a sporty bike ride due to the flat ground and the amount of pedestrians, pushchairs and roller bladders often on the Promenade, but it is ideal for tricycles, learners, and anyone just fancying a breath of sea air. Although the Promenade is quite large, its cycle path does run on the road side and so you do have to keep an extra special eye out if you are riding with younger children.
You can combine your bike ride with a spree on the adjacent beach, where stone skimming and throwing is a must! Some of the private beaches even have specific play areas for young children, ideal for parents wanting to enjoy a relaxing drink.
The Albert Premier gardens are situated just a few minutes bike ride or walk away from the Promenade. It has a carrousel throughout the year and a play area for children during most of the school holidays. Alternatively go up to the Parc du Château at the old town end of the Promenade where children can enjoy play areas adapted to different ages and lawns ideal for a picnic and ball games.
