On the doorstep of the Mercantour National park, at an altitude of 1600 m, the Auron resort was created in 1937 and offers refined comfort to its visitors whilst also preserving a traditional lifestyle.

1h30 drive from Nice, it is an ideal station for tourists as well as local residents.

The station's centre is concentrated around a main square where there are restaurants and bars, hotels and shops and an ice rink and a church. Auron village is not within easy walking distance to slopes but you may take a 2 minute cable car ride from the centre, a bus or a short 5 minute drive to park in one of the free car parks on the slopes.

If visiting with young children, we would advice hiring your ski equipment from one of the hire shops on the slopes to save having to carry it on a cable car or in your car. You can also leave it in the shop at the end of each skiing excursion if you are staying for more than a day which saves having to go through the whole hire process every day.

SKIING DOMAIN

135 Km of skiing slopes divided in 4 zones : Las Donnas, Sauma Longue, Demandols and Lieuson

• 42 slopes : 9 black slopes, 15 red slopes, 16 blue slopes and 2 green slopes
• 21 mechanical ski lifts: 3 cable cars, 9 chair lifts, 7 ski lifts, 1 conveyor, 1 telecord.

SKIING COURSES – FRENCH SKIING SCHOOL (ESF)

Every type of course is offered by the ESF at Auron : snowboard or snowshoes, Alpine skiing or seal skin hikes, private courses or collective ones for adults and children, but also as freestyle workshops.

If you organize in advance, it will be possible for you to be provided with instructors who speak English, Spanish, Italian or German, for private courses only.

Children courses :

Piou Piou Club

• For children from 3 to 4.
• Morning, afternoon or day sessions.
• A heated chalet with toys and games for nap time, a free mini ski lift for skiing initiation and preparation for the « ourson ».

Mini-club

• For children from 4 to 7.
  Morning, afternoon or day sessions.
  A heated chalet with toys and games for nap time, a free mini ski lift for skiing initiation and preparation for the « flocon ».

Group Instruction

• For children as young as 7 years old and sometimes younger if they already know how to ski. Group courses last 2 hours, the aim is to progress in a group of children of the same level with the acquisition of an « étoile » in the week. For a minimum of 4 children.

Private instruction

• For children as young as 3 years old.

Handicapped children

• The ESF School with the Conseil Général provides ski tandems with a monitor for non autonomous persons (at a charge). However if the child can stand or if you have your own equipment an instructor can also take him/her skiing. Find out directly from the ESF and reservations have to be made in advance.

ACCOMODATION

Auron provides a few hotels right on the slopes, ideal for skiing but less if you’d like to make the most of the ambiance of the resort’s centre. Alternatively there are a few hotels and apartments on or very near to the central square and others dotted around the village.
